Collection: Asters - Tender Perennial
These Asters are a special variety bred in the Netherlands. Having never grown them before, I was originally considering them an annual in our zone 5-6 due to the information available when I ordered the plugs (hardy in zone 9-11). After some inconsistent research findings, I went straight to the source and they confirmed that this aster series can overwinter in SE Nebraska.
Notes from the breeder: "Varieties in Aster Showmaker series are winter-hardy in zone 5-6. We have good experience with these overwintering in Chicagoland and New Jersey. Point to consider is that winter-hardiness also depends on planted in pot or in garden, windy place or not, how soon frost falls in etc."
When you have excessive heat the flower will stay smaller than usual, which is why the blooms are not as large as shown in the one photo. We'd expect them to increase in size as the temperatures cool.
